Funerals. They are something we don't really want to talk about, but we all have to deal with at some stage or another.
If you have recently been to a funeral or if you are at a certain "mature" stage of life, you may have already started to question what your own funeral may be like. For example, do you wish to be buried or cremated? Is there a favourite song you would like played, or a particular poem read?
You may have thought about these questions, but have you considered letting your family know about these things? One of the most stressful times for your loved ones is also the time when they need to collect information about you and what you wanted for your funeral service. And at a time when they are grieving and in pain, it can be difficult to have to try and find the answers.
When you really think about it, just how much does your family actually know about your life - for example, where were you born, what was your first job, where did you meet your wife or husband?
This is where, as a Professional Celebrant, I can help you create a Personal History Profile. All the important dates, your memories and milestones, likes and dislikes. Then your family could spend more time focusing on their own memories of you - and even be comforted by reading your own words. Your stories might then prompt some of their own, helping them to remember the good times at the moment they need this the most.
The chance of family disagreements over "what you would have wanted" would also be eliminated, as your preferences would be plainly stated for the executor of your estate to enact.
